SAE Spotlight
by Marysville FFA
The SAE spotlight highlights a student's SAE for a two week period. An SAE is a supervised agricultural experience done outside of school. SAE's are either entreperneurship or a placement program.
Our first spotlight will be on Maggie Schotte. Her SAE is diversified livestock entreperneurship production. She raises show cattle and pigs. The SAE started out by her growing up on the family farm. When she entered 4-H at the age of seven she started with one heifer to show. Since then, the number of her cattle has grown to fifteen head. She has also added pigs and currently has two bred gilts. Over the years she has peaked at twelve pigs and nineteen cattle at one time.
Her favorite part is raising the animals, getting the satisfaction of getting to show them, and seeing her hard work pay off. Through the SAE she has learned about responsibility by having to do chores and putting the livestock needs before her own. Someday she hopes to have her own herd and get her children into the show ring.
Through her SAE she has won district and state in diversified livestock entrepreneurship production. She was also in the silver division at nationals. Maggie plans on attending KSU and majoring in the agriculture industry.
