Fun Had by All at Winter Festival
by SueAnn Wanklyn
Not long after the bell to dismiss school, on February 26, did it take students to start coming back into Marysville Elementary School. The PTO/MES Winter Festival was held from 6 - 8 p.m. Students with wristbands got to take advantage of shorter lines on the big blow ups located in the gym.as they started having fun at 5:30 p.m. A student received a wristband if they sold at least one item during the Fall fundraiser.
The gym was filled with four blow up activities: bounce house, giant slide, obstacle course, and the ball tug-of-war. There were activities in the commons area as well. Members of the KAYS organization from the high school were painting faces of participants. Students could transform into whatever they wanted by getting their face painted and there were some unique designs walking around the school that evening. THANK YOU KAYS!
PTO had a table set up to inform participants of what the PTO function is and the activities that are performed throughout the year. PTO sponsors a fundraiser each year to help purchase supplies for all the students who attend MES. Without the fundraiser, parents would have to purchase the supplies for each of their children. PTO also hosts events such as the Winter Festival, Teacher Appreciation meals, a homecoming parade float, and food pantry drive. In years past, PTO has hosted MES to a movie at the Astro Theater as well as contests throughout the year for grades to compete for a pizza party to see which class can accumulate the most BoxTops, Campbell's labels, etc.
The smell of hotdogs and popcorn filled the air as well. Students, parents, faculty, and friends were invited to eat as well. Pop was also served. A cotton candy machine was busy spinning the majority of the night as JoyLynn, PTO President manned the station. Pretty sure her arm was sore the next morning from twirling the soft stuff onto cones.
Students were having fun winning baked items at the cake walk. This was held in the preschool room and there MANY cool cakes and treats available.
The PTO would like to send a THANK YOU to all the volunteers who made the night a success. Approximately 350 people participated in activities throughout the night. A special THANK YOU to Alice King and members of the KAYS. You were a tremendous help through the night. Wal-Mart and First Commerce Bank, Marysville, also donated items for the festival. THANK YOU!
