Junior Senior High School: General Information

The Past Meets The Future at MHS Band Concert

The future of the MHS music program will share a stage with an icon from the Marysville High School past. On Tuesday, May 13th, the Marysville High School Band will present its Spring Concert at 7 pm in the MHS Auditorium.

The recently formed Center Street Jazz Combo will start off the concert with a mix of styles including Blues, Classic Beatles, and an iconic piece recently featured on television commercials: The Girl From Ipanema. The concert will also debut the Junior High Jazz Combo playing St. Louie Blues and collaborating with Center Street Jazz for a combined Latin number.

The Symphonic Band will perform a variety of traditional concert repertoire including two pieces performed at the Large Group State Music Festival, for which the band earned second division ratings.

Ms. Meg Baker, a student at Kansas State University and president of the Marshall County Community Band will conduct a little-known Sousa march with the band. She has spent time with the band under the direction of Tobias Wood for a class at K-State. “Meg brings some fresh ideas to the ensemble, which challenges them and me to become better musicians,” said Wood.

Mr. Bud Schuette, the long-time director of bands (for those of you that don’t know), will conduct a special piece with the MHS Band. “Concert Variations, by Claude T. Smith has personal meaning for Mr. Schuette,” Wood stated. “He knew Mr. Smith personally, and can bring a perspective to the piece that I cannot.”

The benchmark of music education in Marysville will share a concert with the future of the Bulldog band.

Admission is free and there will be a reception with cookies and tea in the cafeteria directly following the concert. Come for the kids, stay for the music.
