Inclement Weather Policy

Ice, blizzards, heavy snowfall, and other winter weather conditions that make it unsafe to transport students or hold classes can occur with little warning during the winter months in Northern Kansas. Our first priority in bad weather is the safety of our students and staff. It is easy to make mistakes when trying to predict Kansas weather. When we do make a mistake we hope that it is on the side of caution and safety.
In the past we have utilized late starts to our school day. By starting one or two hours later, school personnel have a better chance to assess the weather conditions. We will continue to utilize this practice this year. On the days where we do not hold classes or dismiss early, we will not have athletic practices, contests, or other activities after dismissal time.
The decision to cancel school or alter the school day is that of the superintendent. In making weather related decisions regarding school, the neighboring superintendents do consult one another via conference call early in the morning. Together they help determine whether school will be in session. In the event of late start, cancellation, or early dismissal the following media outlets will be notified:
