All Year
Look for Scholarships in the Counselor's Corner
Make Copies of all applications and financial aid forms
Visit your college or schools you are interested in- use in-service days and you may also do college visits. I will be glad to assist you in making appointments for the visits.

September:
If taking the ACT, register by September 22.
Visit trade/technical schools, college campuses and militaryrecruiters.
Complete a personal data sheet for resume and for teacher recommendations
Complete and submit the NCAA Initial Clearinghouse form if interested in participating in NCAA college athletics.
Prepare an art portfolio if applying for art scholarships
October:
ACT given here Oct 28 ( attend help sessions)
Check with employer, church , insurance companies, civic organizations for scholarships
Create a resume for schools, jobs and scholarships
Watch for audition dates if you plan to audition for vocal, instrumental music etc.
Continue gathering info about schools and career programs
November:
Seniors need to finish making the application process. For those who are still undecided, narrow your choices to three and make a check list of pros and cons of each one. If there isn't an application fee, apply to all. You can narrow your choice later.
Keep copies of applications that you have mailed.
Make copies of your application, update your resume and write a general college application essay.
This would be one that you could edit for other schools later.
Continue applying for scholarships- check the school web site.
December:
ACT test will be given on Dec. 9. You can still sign up for this through Nov. 16.
Use Test Gear practice tests and mock tests given by staff to help you pace your progress through the ACT test.
Pick up free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Do not submit until after Jan.1
Be prepared to figure 2006 taxes as soon as possible after Jan.1
Start thinking about what favorite stuff you may need for your dorm room or apartment.
January:
Attend Financial Aid Seminar on Jan. 17 at 7:00p.m. in the Cafeteria
Prepare taxes
Submit FAFSA and keep a copy
February:
Finalize plans for college
Pick up applications for local scholarships
March:
March 1 is the Priority deadline for submitting the FAFSA
March 9 is the deadline for submitting the registration packet for April ACT-
Attend study sessions, practice with TestGear
Complete and return local scholarship applications
Pre enroll in Fall classes
Look for SAR ( Student Aid Report)
April:
ACT at MHS- April 14
Review Acceptance and financial aid offers from schools
Notify schools applied to, but have decided not to attend.
May:
Request final transcript sent to college, military, trade school that you will attend after graduation.
Register for summer school
